How to Find Stuart

EMPLOYERS

Stuart's Internship and Co-op Programs

Why should I hire a Stuart intern or co-op student?
Companies find it beneficial to hire Stuart interns and co-op students for several reasons:

  • Stuart students bring new ideas into the workplace environment from their previous work experiences and current coursework.
  • Interns and co-op students help cut labor costs, since they generally do not receive benefits from their employers.
  • Internships and co-ops provide employers with a simple way to evaluate possible future employees without making a long-term hiring commitment.
  • Additional professional workforce can free management to work on long-range projects.

What is the difference between a co-op and an internship?
Internships run the duration of one quarter, being a minimum of eight weeks long. During the summer, internships can either be part-time or full-time. During the rest of the year, internships are required to be 20 hours per week or less.

Co-op is three quarter-long (24 weeks, minimum), full-time or part-time employment related to the student's field of study. Because of the length of their hire, co-op students can work on more complex, long-term projects than your typical interns, and therefore must hold paid positions.

When and how can I hire a student for an internship or co-op?
Stuart School of Business runs on a quarter system, meaning that there are four times during the year when you can take on interns and co-op students. Below are the windows during which you can hire a student for an internship or co-op:

Winter 06/07: November 13 (earliest start date) - November 27 (last date to hire an intern/co-op)
Spring 07: February 26 (earliest start date) - March 12 (last date to hire an intern/co-op)
Summer 07: May 13 (earliest start date) - June 4 (last date to hire an intern/co-op)

We suggest that you interview for your interns or co-op students at least three weeks before the start of the quarter.

If you have opportunities for an intern or a co-op student, please contact the Stuart Career Management Center at careers@stuart.iit.edu or at 312.906.6555.
