Article I: Name

The name of this organization shall be “The European Club”, hereafter also referred to as TEC or “the club”.  


Article II: Purpose

The purpose of TEC is to contribute and enrich the SGSB student’s education by offering an array of both professional and social events, specifically targeted at leveraging knowledge and understanding for European business and culture. 


Article III: Membership 

Section 1: Types of membership 

TEC shall have four types of members: active member, active advisor, passive member, and passive advisor. 

Section 2: Eligibility 

1)     Any SGSB or Kent Law student, faculty, or staff shall be considered as an active member, given an official application and a minimum set of information.

2)     Starting on March 9, 2001, the $5 membership fee will be abolished.

3)     Active members shall change status upon graduation, automatically adopting passive membership 

4)     Members may become advisors should they be appointed a 3rd member seeking advise and be able to provide constructive input. 


Article IV: The TEC Committee 

Section 1: Definition 

The Committee shall be the administrative, organizing and judicial body of The European Club. 

Section 2: Members 

The Committee shall consist of three to seven officers taking the following positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Creative Director, Delegate, and Web Master. The committee shall perform the duties prescribed by this constitution. 

Section 3: Eligibility 

1)     Any active member or advisor may be eligible for the seats of the treasurer, webmaster, creative director, delegate, or secretary. 

2)     The seats of both President and Vice-President may only be held by European nationals, in order to sustain European focus. 

3)     The committee shall consist at all times of at least 60% European nationals. 

Section 4: Meetings 

1)     Meetings shall be determined with the action plan presented by the President, two months prior to taking office. 

2)     The president shall have the authority to call meetings, as deemed necessary 


Article V: Officers 

1) President - The President of TEC shall preside over meetings, appoint committees, and shall be regarded as the primus inter pares within the committee.

2) Vice President - The vice president shall take over all duties of the president in his or her absence.

3) Treasurer - The treasurer shall be responsible for the finances of TEC. He shall maintain detailed financial records of all club events.

4) Secretary - The secretary shall keep minutes of all meetings and handle the correspondence of TEC. 

5) Delegate - The delegate shall be responsible to represent 3rd party cultures at the committee. His responsibilities include the promotion of the club to 3rd party nationals. 

6) Web Master - The web master shall be responsible to keep the web site up to date as well as interesting and engaging. 

7) Creative Director - The creative director shall handle all advice requests from members, and seek creative new ideas to leverage and improve the club.

8) Any member can hold an operational position


Article VI: Elections 

Section 1:    Quorum for TEC Committee shall be five voting members

Section 2:    Any member, passive or active, shall be eligible to attend the elections and vote for committee officers. 

Section 3:    A simple majority of votes shall be sufficient to elect a candidate, with the current president casting the decisive vote in case of a tie. 

Section 4:    Election shall be held every six months. 

Section 5:    The seat of the president may not be held longer than two terms (12 months) by the same individual. 

Section 6:    To be considered a candidate for presidency, one must submit an action plan for the six months he or she would take office. The action plan shall be presented to the voting members and taken in consideration in the election thereafter. 

Section 7:    The newly elected president may select his own officers should no candidates be up for election. 


Article VII: Services to members 

1)     One professional event per month (on average)

2)     One social event per month (on average)

3)     Member of the TEC network

4)     Members may request advice from TEC in professional issues. Neither TEC nor the referred advisor shall be liable for any consequences of the given advice.

5)     Right to vote and becoming a candidate for the committee

6)     Opportunity to becoming an advisor (determined by the committee, and only under explicit consent of the targeted individual)

7)     Personalized assistance upon first time arrival in Chicago

8)     TEC will discuss SGSB issues brought up by members and represent them should their complaint or request be valid. 


Article VIII : Services to non-members 

Non-members may join some events at a charge determined by the committee. 


Article IX: Amendments 

The text of a proposed amendment shall be submitted to the committee and is subject to approval of the same.
